Tax Fraug Boss Level Design Breakdown
Intentions for this level:
Environmental obstacles - buildings/signs falling into path
Player flying over buildings at times
Semi orbital path to center of city
Transition to boss fight (different gamemode) at the end of spline
Large boss that can be seen from multiple points throughout the city
Something interesting frame at all times
What is Tax Fraug?
Tax Fraug is simple yet fast-paced, high-risk, high-reward 3rd person Rail-Shooter! The other two levels in the game
The 2 previous levels in the game featured only on-rails gameplay so for this final Boss level we wanted a transition from the traditional gameplay players are used to into the Boss fight gamemode where you can orbit around the Boss or stay still to shoot
Level Dressing Throughout Development
Intentions for level art
Match the style of the cities in previous levels
Don't include unneccessary assets that aren't in the player's view
Blend of nature in the city, populate islands with trees to match the feeling of the border of the city
Varying building heights throughout the city to emphasize the worldbuilding and tone of a city
I filled in 3 islands before going out of town so our other level designer took what I had done and duplicated it for other islands and filled in the rest with buildings on his own. When I returned, I filled in all of the trees and streetlights, making adjustments to building placements where they were needed. I also played through the spline repeatedly to ensure there were no trees or especially lights anywhere on the map that was blocked from the player's view during gameplay.
Heist Themed Escape Room - UEFN
For my puzzle design independent study, I am currently creating an escape room in UEFN. This is also my first time working in the Fortnite version of the engine!
Goals for the final product
aiming for 10-15 puzzles
multiple puzzles in the same room
physical progression through the space - unlocking access to new spaces
include conditional puzzles dependent on the completion of others or the discovery of items/info after events
feels like a traditional escape room
at least 1 cinematic sequence
